Testimonials

"The family of Calvin Brown wishes to thank Executive Director Helen Fisher and all the staff of Ashley Gardens for their kind and caring treatment of our father the five years he lived at Ashley Gardens. Without their loving care and professional diligence Dad would not have survived the last five years of his life with dignity and respect."

"I can never thank you enough for the wonderful way that you took care of my mom, Betty. Because of the outstanding care that you provided, the last two and a half years of her life were very good. You all seem to love what you do, and it shows. Whenever I came to see Mom, the atmosphere was relaxed and homey. I never wondered if she was in the right place, she definitely was.

"Dear Helen;
To only say thank you to you and the entire staff is inadequate…for the professional oversight and personal care; for the prompt phone calls when something unusual happened; for accepting us into the Ashley Gardens family on our frequent visits; and especially for the constant and compassionate care during those final days as our husband, father and grandfather peacefully left this world for the next."

"I would like to say thank you to the staff at Ashley Gardens Mount Vernon for the wonderful care and understanding that you provide my mother.

She has a long history of dementia with significant behavioral complications. I visited over 22 care facilities in my search for long term care for my mother. My background as a nurse, made me clearly aware of the challenges my mother creates for those who provide her daily personal and health care. In all of my visitations and conversations with a broad variety of care facilities, you, Ashley Gardens, were by far the most progressive and comprehensive of the care providers."

"Dear Cathy,

I want to thank you and your facility for the Deferral Program, without it I do not know where my mom would be today certainly not receiving the care she is today at Ashley Gardens.

Thank you again for all that you and Ashley Gardens staff does every day in caring for each of residents."

"Dear Hellen,

My family and I want to thank you and your staff for helping us so much for the year Nick was with you.

The past couple of years I have had some hard decisions to make and worry over, but one decision I could feel good about was to have Nick spend his final time at Ashley Gardens.

I spent at least five days a week visiting, and so appreciated the home-like atmosphere and warm greetings and conversations with the staff. It takes very special people to care for those with dementia. Thank heavens for all of you at Ashley Gardens!"

"To all the Ashley Gardens Staff –

We can't thank you enough for the patient, loving care you provided for Margaret the 3 years she spent here. Never once did we leave a visitation worrying about how she would be treated while we were away.

May God bless you in a special way as you continue to love and care for those who cannot care for themselves.

Sincerly,"

"Our family is very thankful that our Father has been able to live in Ashley Gardens for the past year. Dad is happy with the care and always joking with the caregivers and staff. The aroma is always so welcoming and he loves to sit and watch the cook create the wonderful meals that are served.

The entire staff is very attentive and caring to each of the residents. Requests are handled promptly and efficiently. Activities are planned and everyone enjoys them. Last week, a gal was singing and playing the guitar, encouraging the residents to participate and we had two of the residents up dancing with the caregivers. Everyone had a smile on their face and it was great to watch. Ashley Gardens – a great place for your loved one to live which still gives them individuality, plus the care they need and assisting support for the family of the resident.

With our appreciation,"

"Ashley Gardens is a godsend as far as my husband and I are concerned. Jeff and I knew that it would be impossible for us to take care of Bill on our own due to his onset of the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease. We did not even know where to begin to look for a suitable place for Bill to get the quality of care that he deserved. That's when we met Helen. She was so warm and welcoming when it came to sharing all about the way Ashley Gardens operated. Deep down we knew that this was the right place for Bill. The problem was that he needed to move into a home right away because the assisted living facility he was currently in could no longer accommodate him. Helen made every effort to make room for him ASAP. Within a week Bill had a new roof over his head. The last few years of Bill's life were filled with lots of love and the greatest of care from the staff at Ashley Gardens and we always knew that he was in a safe place. Our deepest thanks go out to everyone who aided in his care until the very end. I can personally say that my family and I will always have a special place in our hearts for you all."

"It is with pleasure and thanksgiving that I write this letter of endorsement of the staff and facility at Ashley Gardens in Mount Vernon. My mother was a resident there the past two years until her passing, and the staff not only gave her excellent care, they also loved her like an extended family."

"It was originally our plan to care for Mom in our home until her death. When I could no longer meet her needs here, it was very difficult for me to relinquish her care to others. She was a private, reserved person, so the private rooms that Ashley Gardens provided were a priority to us. Right from the beginning, they welcomed my almost-daily visits, often offering me a meal with Mom and making me feel a vital partner in her on-going care."

"Helen Fisher is an excellent administrator and advocate for her residents. She takes time to know them personally and to stay informed on the needs of each one. She not only has the respect of her caregivers, but has also uniquely equipped them to feel a pride and ownership in the facility that results in their working hard to keep its standards high."

"In these past two years, I have grown to love these caregivers like family. They consistently go the extra mile for the residents – curling their hair, polishing their nails, wrapping them in a warm afghan fresh from the dryer when they are cold. The residents become their grandmas and grandpas, yet they add these personal touches without ever neglecting the professionalism that is also necessary. In the difficult weeks of our mother's passing, they not only loved our Mom well, but us as well. They were like our extended family, grieving with us over her loss."

"Our experience with Ashley Gardens is not unique. Because I was there so often, I got to know many other family members who shared my appreciation and thanksgiving for the staff. I will forever be grateful for the care and love provided us by Ashley Gardens.

With heartfelt appreciation,"

"The new Obama administration wants radical changes to our health care system. The overhaul is massive and will change the landscape of health care forever. Will it help? I hope so. I do know that Mt. Vernon has examples of health care that does show glimmers of hope. These examples are not always found in the Pacific Northwest.

I sought out quality and caring health care for my husband and desperately searched throughout Oregon and Washington for an Alzheimer's care system, researching more than 50 communities. Mt. Vernon stood out of the crowd. The hospital, clinics, residential facilities and trained workers stood out as I researched Alzheimer's care. We moved here from Portland last summer starting a new life at age 81, he residing in Ashley Gardens Alzheimer's Home.

Over the course of the year, I spent much time watching the Mt. Vernon health care community at work. The coordination from hospital to clinic to residential centers to hospice care and, finally, to funeral home made the best out of a difficult situation.

Not only did this community support my husband's health care needs until his death, but I was supported through the Alzheimer's caregiver training program and support group hosted for the community by Ashley Gardens Alzheimer's Home.

I am sure that the Mt. Vernon health care system is not perfect. But I do know it shows hard work, dedicated health care providers and thoughtful planning by this city and county's leaders. As our country looks at new ways to provide health care, they can learn from the hard work from this community.

I am deeply grateful for the quality and compassion shown to my husband by the well-trained staff at Ashley Garden's Alzheimer's Home."
